Buying a used EDM machine? Here is what to inspect before purchase:

General Condition
- Check machine level - verify within 0.02mm/m
- Inspect way covers for dents and corrosion
- Run a test fire - listen for unusual sounds from servo motor
- Check all axis movement for smoothness and backlash

Power Supply and Dielectric System
- Verify power supply voltage matches your facility
- Test dielectric pump pressure (should be 2-4 bar)
- Inspect filters - replace if dirty
- Check resin tank condition and capacity

CNC Controller and Software
- Power cycle twice - watch for alarm codes on startup
- Verify backup battery voltage (under 3V means replace soon)
- Check that all parameters are saved (ask for parameter backup)
- Load a sample NC program and dry run

Critical Measurements
- X/Y/Z axis accuracy: check with laser interferometer
- Table flatness: should be within 0.01mm
- Spindle/head alignment
- Wire tension gauge reading (for wire EDM)

Paperwork to Request
- Maintenance logs for past 2 years
- List of spare parts included
- Original manual (electronic copy acceptable)
- List of recent repairs

Always ask for a test run cutting a sample part before committing.
